Head of Zeus has acquired two novels by Amanda Prowse, including Poppy Day which was previously self-published.
Editorial director Laura Palmer bought world rights in a pre-emptive deal for Poppy Day and What Have I Done? by Prowse from Caroline Michel at PFD.
Poppy Day, which attracted media attention from Lorraine Kelly and Carol Vorderman when it was self-published in print in 2011, follows an army wife whose husband is captured in Afghanistan. Head of Zeus will publish in paperback and e-book on 1st November for Remembrance Day, with all royalties going to the Royal British Legion.
The second novel, What Have I Done?, is described as "the story of a mother rebuilding her life after killing the husband who tortured her". It will be published in trade paperback in spring 2012.
Palmer said: "Amanda is a natural storyteller whose characters jump from the page, grab hold of your heart and don't let go. These are books to curl up with and get lost in—I'm already envious of everyone who hasn't read her yet."
